MW ASUKA R2 takes direct inspiration from Asuka Langley Soryu, one of the main characters from Neon Genesis Evangelion, arguably one of the most popular anime series ever and a huge leap in the discussion of ethics and metaphysics comparative to what came before. The characters in the anime have drastically opposing personalities, and Asuka’s immediate introductory presentation of herself show just how bombastic and vibrant her character is when contrasted with Shinji and Rei’s withdrawn personalities. Her plugsuit, like her personality, is loud and bold, with brightly contrasting red and white and complementary orange to create depth. The designer of the set themselves have expressed their personal thoughts on Asuka and the inspiration behind MW ASUKA’s design:
